LANXESS Successfully Concludes Open-to-Public Day 2018 Initiative for Building Sustainable Communities

Shanghai – September 14, 2018 – Specialty chemicals company LANXESS held today at its Ningbo site its third “Open-to-Public Day” under the theme of Collaboration, Openness and Innovation. Completed at the end of 2015, the Ningbo plant was honored with the National Green Plant certificate by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology early this year.

This is the first time for the site to be opened to the public and follows “Open-to-Public Day” events held this year at the company’s Changzhou and Wuxi sites. This year, the serial events, which hit a new record in terms of involving sites, have received a total of around 400 visitors, including local elementary school teachers and students, employees' families, surrounding residents, media and government representatives.

The “Open-to-Public Day” series this year features comprehensive and close visits to LANXESS's production bases and factories, so that visitors can more directly know about the environmental products and processes of LANXESS, forging a close link between the company and the public.

Sheng Xiaodong, member of the Standing Committee of Xinbei District, Changzhou City, believes that LANXESS’s open day events have built a bridge between schools, governments and enterprises. The leather chemicals plant of LANXESS in Changzhou, the first garden factory established in the Xinbei District, represents the green development concept of the region.

Among the visitors, primary school students constituted a large group. LANXESS's chemical and safety experts prepared for them a number of activities, including chemical experiments, lectures on first aid, Q&A on environmental protection, and waste utilization contests. These carefully designed projects greatly inspired children's interest.

For example, on the Wuxi “Open-to-Public Day”, LANXESS HSE experts told the kids what kind of safety hazards they should beware of in daily life, how to use electricity safely, how to escape in emergency, and how to classify garbage. Children were quite active in interacting with the security experts. In the small class of first aid, the students learned and personally practiced the professional skills of CPR from the doctors of the Red Cross.

In order to develop the good habit of saving resources among teenagers, this year's Changzhou “Open-to-Public Day” also held a waste recycling project competition, and presented awards to the winning projects upon voting on the spot. These activities were warmly welcomed and actively participated by visiting students.

A student who participated in the LANXESS Wuxi “Open-to-Public Day” said: “Today’s event is meaningful. We’ve learned a lot, and to me, the most impressive activity is the first aid class, which is both practical and interesting. I have also learned a lot about safety.”

Many faculty members also expressed their appreciation for the open day events afterwards. “Thanks to LANXESS’s invitation, which allows the children to have a connection with the company, and understand that environmental protection and chemical industry are not two contradictionary subjects,” said Xie Ying, a teacher from Wuxi Chunxing Primary School who participated in the Wuxi “Open-to-Public Day”.

“Open-to-Public Day” is one of the pillars for LANXESS to practice its corporate social responsibility. Since 2012, the company has held 12 “Open-to-Public Day” events in Shanghai, Changzhou, Wuxi, Qingdao, Liyang and Ningbo sites, engaging nearly 2,300 residents, teachers, students, professionals, volunteers and media representatives.

LANXESS has always been adhering to the principle of “Good for business, good for society” to actively undertake environmental and social responsibilities and win-win cooperation. Following the brand campaign of “Quality Works”, LANXESS is committed to contributing to climate and environmental protection, and people’s life improvement by implementing high quality standards for products, processes and technologies all around the globe. At the beginning of 2018, LANXESS won the title of “2017 Enterprise Role Model List Top Responsible Enterprise” in the petroleum and chemical industry and the “CSR Enterprise Award” at the 2nd China CSR Annual Summit.
