LANXESS showcases latest applications for green energy industry at PU China 2019

PU rubber roller supports photovoltaics

Energy revolution is opening a new chapter in China. According to the 13th Five Year Plan for Solar Energy Development issued by the National Energy Administration, by the end of 2020, the solar energy installed capacity will exceed 110 million KW, of which PV capacity will be more than 105 million KW.

The PU rubber roller marks an important breakthrough of LANXESS in PV applications, and has attracted much attention ever since its debut. PUP (polyurethane prepolymer) manufactured by LANXESS is used in producing PV rollers that can withstand tough conditions thanks to the stable and excellent properties of the material, such as abrasive resistance, scratch resistance, toughness and high load capacity. The wire saw system that consists of the PUP rubber roller and diamond wire is used for producing silicon slices – a crucial component for PV generation. The equipment strongly supports the fast development of PV industry with its high efficiency and stability. The rollers made from LANXESS’ PUP ensures equal thickness, high quality and low defective rate in producing silicon slices due to its stability in performance and size. What’s more, the material manages to cut time and maintenance costs caused by replacing rollers, as it allows the roller to serve for a longer time.


Special CPU elastomer guarantees offshore wind power and oil and gas fields

Public data shows that China’s offshore wind power installed capacity has been rising fast in recent years. The capacity added in 2018 stood at 1.65 million KW, realizing a YOY increase of 42.7% and making China the No. 1 country in terms of newly-added capacity growth in the world.

The cable sheathing, another star product of LANXESS, is specifically developed for offshore wind power generation. Due to the harsh and changing marine climate and seabed conditions, submarine cables have to withstand high salt corrosion, seabed abrasion and current impacts. At the same time, the vulnerability and high cost of cable itself necessitates cable sheathing protection solutions, especially where there are strong tides and waves. LANXESS’ cast cable sheathing shows exceptional resistance to abrasion, tear, hydrolysis and corrosion, effectively extending the cables’ service life and helping tackle the safety challenges in green energy development.

In addition, LANXESS has invested a lot in formulating detailed and tailored solutions for offshore wind power application. BU URE produces a whole set of quality components, such as bend restrictors, bend stiffeners and stand-pipes, to satisfy the specific needs in fixing undersea oil pipes and cables. For instance, submarine cables are vulnerable to excessive bending force under strong currents, and the cable damages incurred will cause a big financial loss for offshore wind power generation. However, PU bend restrictors, featuring low density, corrosion resistance and precise fixation, could control the overall radius of curvature of cables by a chain structure composed of at least two restrictor modules through mutual occlusion, so as to robustly ensure the proper fixation and safety of cables.

Facing harsher natural environment, the offshore gas and oil industry shall pay the utmost attention to selecting the most durable material in developing large equipment. BU URE also provide excellent services to the equipment used in this field.


High-quality and stable coatings secure safe development of nuclear power

According to the BP Statistical Review of World Energy, the nuclear power generation grew by 17% in the world in 2017, faster than past 10-year , and all the growth in global nuclear generation came from China. To secure nuclear power safety is of great significance to both human society and natural environment.
Heavy-water reactors are the core in realizing safe nuclear reaction. The radiation shielding of the reactor vessel is closely linked with power generation safety and environment conservation in the surrounding area.
