LANXESS presents innovations at Tires & Rubber 2010

Comprehensive rubber portfolio at stand 930 in pavilion 7, hall 3

Leverkusen -

Specialty chemicals group LANXESS will be presenting its comprehensive rubber product range at the Tires & Rubber Fair 2010 at Expocentre Moscow from March 9 to 12, 2010. Experts from various business units from the company will welcome visitors to stand 930, occupying around 40 square meters in pavilion 7.

“Russia is of major significance for LANXESS’s business development as part of our strategic focus on the BRIC countries. We see a growing demand for our high-performance rubbers here in Russia. That’s why we consider it important to present our products at this prestigious trade fair, and we look forward to pursuing intensive dialog with visitors and developing interesting new business contacts,” says Georges Barbey, Managing Director of OOO LANXESS in Moscow.

Buna CB 21 – innovation for tires and golf sports

At Tires & Rubber, LANXESS is presenting its entire rubber product portfolio including a variety of innovations. For instance highly elastic neodymium-polybutadiene (Nd-BR) rubber with a grade of particularly high viscosity – Buna CB 21. This product, whose mooney viscosity of 73 MU is unique among commercially available grades in this rubber family, features outstanding rebound resilience and particularly low heat buildup, making Buna CB 21 an ideal product for cutting the rolling resistance of car tires. This is a key feature of great significance, particularly with respect to the efficiency labeling of tires that has already been mandated by the European Parliament.

Buna CB 21 neodymium polybutadiene rubber also makes the KIRA STAR golf ball a revolution in golfers’ sports gear. Its outstanding market success is due in no small part to the properties of this newly developed high-performance rubber grade. Making use of Buna CB 21’s ultra-high resilience, the KIRA STAR is well equipped to achieve greater flight distances even when hit at low head speeds and with a low impact. As a consequence, the golf balls made by Japanese sporting goods manufacturer Kasco Corporation have sold about 3.5 times more than originally forecast since they hit the market a few months ago.

Therban AT 3400 VP – ideal for liquid molding injection

Among the products that LANXESS will be showcasing at the fair will be also a new, very low-viscosity, hydrogenated nitrile rubber (HNBR) under the brand name Therban AT 3400 VP. This HNBR elastomer has an oil-type consistency at typical processing temperatures and is therefore ideal for liquid injection molding (LIM), for example. This process can be deployed, for instance, to produce particularly soft seals very cost-effectively and without the use of plasticizers.

Today, LANXESS is the world’s leading supplier of synthetic rubber and offers over 100 different grades of synthetic rubber that are used primarily in the automotive industry, for tires, in medical technology and in the generation of renewable energy. As a special service LANXESS will be offering technical seminars at Tires&Rubbers 2010. On March 11 LANXESS’ experts will host customer seminars on selected product groups such as market trends on butyl rubbers or polymer engineering in solution styrene-butadiene rubbers (SSBR) and poly butadiene polymers for current and future tire applications.

Planning for new rubber chemicals plant for Russia on track

To boost its local market presence and ensure direct access for its customers, LANXESS last year opened the sales office of its new Russian company OOO LANXESS in the Federation Tower in Moscow.

The Group also plans to set up production facilities for rubber chemicals in the Nizhny Novgorod region, where polymer-bound additives and release agents for the rubber-processing and tire industries are set to be produced from 2010.
