LANXESS Employees Awarded Labor Medals for Their Practice in Safety

Pan Guangfu at LANXESS won the “Labor Medal of Jiangsu Province” in 2019

Shanghai, June 28, 2019 – Two LANXESS employees recently received Labor Medals for their achievements in practicing safety. This comes as this month marks the 18th “Work Safety Month” in China, with the Office of the Security Committee of the State Council rolling out nationwide the “Work Safety Month” and “Safety Production” campaigns under the theme of “preventing risks, eliminating hidden dangers and curbing accidents.”

German specialty chemicals company LANXESS strives to be a practitioner of sustainable development in the chemical industry. The company is constantly enhancing safety awareness and practice of its employees and has recently held the “Act Safely” Safety Week 2019 activities at its sites in Asia-Pacific to encourage each employee to engage in safe practices.

“As such we are especially proud of Pan Guangfu from LANXESS Changzhou, who was awarded the ‘Labor Medal of Jiangsu Province,’ and Dai Fangbo from LANXESS Qingdao, who won the title of ‘Model Worker of Qingdao Licang District,’” LANXESS Asia-Pacific President Ming Cheng Chien said.

“Safety and sustainable development are not only the basis for chemical production, but also the key to the future of all enterprises,” he said. “These honors are recognition for LANXESS’s continuous efforts in safe production and sustainable innovation. Instead of just talking about it, we should practice safety culture in our daily work.”

The “Labor Medal” is the highest honor of the Jiangsu Federation of Trade Unions. Pan Guangfu joined LANXESS in 1998 and is now the supervisor for day shift in the production department of Changzhou. In his daily work, he found that there was much dust and heavy labor in the production of powder products. In 2016, he improved the manual feeding process by using pipeline transportation – thus ensuring the occupational health of employees, improving work efficiency and greatly reducing the impact on the environment. This technological innovation alone saves the company CNY 8 million per year by doubling efficiency.

In addition, Dai Fangbo of LANXESS Qingdao was awarded “Model Worker of Qingdao Licang District” for his contribution to front line production safety. Dai Fangbo joined Rhein Chemie in 1999 and is currently the shift supervisor in the production department. In Dai Fangbo’s opinion, the improvement of workers’ safety awareness and hazard identification ability is very important to ensure the safety of employees. Dai Fangbo and his team set up warning signs at nearly 20 stairways of steel platforms and more than 10 emergency exits for employees in the workshop, tracking them all year round to ensure the availability of these warning signs. These are seemingly simple measures, but they are useful for ensuring the daily walking safety of workers in the workshop.

During the Safety Week, LANXESS organized discussions and sharing activities as well as employees’ practices in safety at its sites and offices, including watching safety education videos, identifying potential risks, “Walking Safety” knowledge contest, and inviting representatives of local authorities of safety production and the fire department to share safety and fire protection knowledge.

LANXESS requires all sites globally to comply with safety, health and environmental principles, and has established a global HSEQ management system covering the four elements: health, safety, environmental protection and quality. At the same time, LANXESS encourages employees to participate in further education and training to enhance their sense of responsibility for safety, health and environment. LANXESS has been honored as one of China’s “Top Employers” for six times for providing employees with excellent welfare and focusing on the training and cultivation of innovative talents at all levels in the organization.
