LANXESS exhibits at first China International Import Expo

LANXESS Booth: 3A3-003, German Pavilion, Hall 3, November 5-10, 2018

Shanghai – November 5, 2018 – Specialty chemicals company LANXESS is exhibiting at the first China International Import Expo (CIIE) taking place from November 5-10 at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai, China. LANXESS showcases products and solutions supporting China’s high-quality development in areas such as new mobility and urbanization at its booth as part of the German Pavilion in the exhibition’s High-end Intelligent Equipment area.

“We are proud to be part of the first CIIE held in China,” LANXESS Asia President Ming Cheng Chien said. “Witnessing China’s rapid growth, we have taken deep roots here over the past 40 years. From 2005 to 2017, China’s share of LANXESS’ global business has already increased from 7% to 13%. We see enormous potential for our future growth in China as the country enters a new development stage with consumer upgrading, demand-driven reform and environmental protection.”

LANXESS supports China’s “High quality development” plan

China is pursuing high quality development and industrial upgrading in recent years. On May 5, 2017, China's first mainline civil aircraft, the C919, made its maiden flight. One highlight at the LANXESS booth is the model of the passenger jet, as LANXESS' Royco range of aviation lubricants have been certified by COMAC and used in the jet’s operation due to their excellent oxidative stability, superior corrosion resistance and outstanding anti-wear protection. These "ultra clean" aviation hydraulic fluids can effectively extend the service life of parts and enhance the reliability of the hydraulic system.

Environmentally friendly and efficient mobility is one of the most important tasks worldwide, and China is being the leading driver of new mobility. LANXESS presents a range of high-end material solutions for green mobility, including a break pedal made of Durethan® (polyamide) that weighs about half as much as a comparable steel structure. It can be manufactured in large-scale series production using a cost-effective one shot process, and meets the high load requirements thanks to the multi-axial fiber layer construction of the High tensile, flexural and torsional strength Tepex composite sheet insert.

LANXESS pays close attention to booming growth areas such as the new energy auto industry in China. Its high-performance plastics allow the construction of components that replace metal parts in motor vehicles and thus contribute to reducing weight, fuel consumption and emissions. There are also many applications for LANXESS plastics in hybrid and electric vehicles as well as electro mobility infrastructure, including components for charging systems, carriers and cell holders for battery systems as well as sensors and housing parts for electric motors, housing, switches and terminal clips for charging stations. To facilitate further growth, LANXESS is establishing a new compounding plant in Changzhou scheduled to come on stream in the second quarter of 2019.

Macrolex branded soluble organic dyes from LANXESS Rhein Chemie business unit (RCH) are also highlighted at the fair. The dyes are mainly used in the coloration of high-quality plastics products such as beverage bottles, electronic equipment, automotive taillights and children's toys. They exhibit high color strength, excellent brightness, excellent weather resistance, lightfastness and thermal stability. The innovative chemicals are partly produced at LANXESS’ Qingdao site, serve the sustainable development of the Chinese market.

Environmental friendly processing and recycle technologies to achieve circular economy
At CIIE, LANXESS also presents its environmental friendly process, including the model of its Ningbo plant that received the National Green Plant certificate from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) of China for its newly developed Ningbo Process early this year. The production process is based on patented technology and ensures the most environmentally-sound production of synthetic yellow-shade red iron oxides in Asia. Compared to traditional production methods, this process produces significantly less nitrogen oxide, including extremely harmful laughing gas. Furthermore, the remaining greenhouse gas emissions are fully purified by highly efficient post-treatment equipment.

LANXESS also showcases an innovative system to demonstrate the recycling of by-products from the leather manufacturing process. The system won the 2017 German Innovation Award in the category “Environmentally- friendly products and services” early this year. Under the title “Resource-efficient production of leather chemicals” (ReeL), LANXESS collaborated with the research institute INVITE  on the realization of a concept for a modular plant for the production of a retanning agent with the brand name “X-Biomer” from leather offcuts, trimmings and shavings, up until now generally a waste product for disposal, and plant-based biomass. In the modular system installed at the HELLER-LEDER tannery in Germany, the first ton of high-quality liquid X-Biomer was produced under real operation conditions, it was made from two cubic meters of wet white shavings. This is a solution with a huge potential for the Chinese Industry environmental protection efforts.

CIIE is a significant move by the Chinese government to give firm support to trade liberalization, economic globalization and actively opening the Chinese market to the world. The initiative was announced in May 2017 by Chinese President Xi Jinping at the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation. This year, over 2,800 companies from over 130 countries and regions are slated to exhibit, 170 of which will be from Germany.
