LANXESS fire safety symposium hold in Beijing

May 29, 2018, Beijing – Construction is booming in China and the Chinese government has been taking an active role in promoting green buildings. With the Fire Safety Symposium on May 29 in Beijing, LANXESS and the XPS Professional Committee of China Plastics Processing Industry Association (CPPIA), Beijing, China, are bringing together about 150 material manufacturers, constructors, architects, associations, and policy-makers to discuss the future of insulation with regard to sustainable fire safety solutions for the construction industry.

One of China’s current challenges is to improve its eco-balance by saving energy. The green building policy in China has been continually developed in recent years and energy saving remains an important objective. The new standard for energy-efficient building also contains a number of fire safety standards for buildings in which organic insulation materials are used.

Both safety and sustainability have become important factors in the insulation industry. The fire spread in the insulation system is affected by various factors such as the cause of fire, materials including the combustion performance of insulation materials and the building’s structure, e.g. facade patterns, facade openings and interior spaces, internal partitions, cavities and mounting types.

“Flame retardant requirements for organic materials continue to increase due to the global trend for energy-efficient construction. Organic materials such as extruded and expanded polystyrene (EPS, XPS) and rigid polyurethane foams provide excellent insulation performance enabling the use of correspondingly thin panels. And LANXESS offers a comprehensive portfolio of flame retardants for those materials. Energy-saving buildings and fire safety are therefore complementary to each other,” explains Dr. Anno Borkowsky, Head of Additives business unit at LANXESS.

“As the world’s largest construction market with half of the new buildings constructed annually worldwide, China can realize enormous potential to achieve energy savings,” says Borkowsky.

At the Fire Safety Symposium, more than 15 Chinese and international experts from government, universities, institutions and industry will present a wide range of topics such as green building material development, evaluation, certification and policy in China, fire safety in building materials, developments in China’s extruded polystyrene foam industry, building energy conservation; future sustainable solutions that support China in achieving its goals.
