“Hello Berlin!”

  • LANXESS presents itself as innovative company at its first parliamentary evening in Berlin
  • Federal Minister Annette Schavan as guest of honour.

Leverkusen / Berlin -

It was a very important day for LANXESS: On 21 January 2010, in bitter cold, sub-zero temperatures, all members of the LANXESS Board of Management travelled to Bitterfeld to take part in a festive groundbreaking ceremony in the company of Reiner Haselhoff, the Minister for Economics and Labour of Saxony Anhalt, and the Mayor of Bitterfeld-Wolfen, Petra Wust. The Bitterfeld site will receive an investment infusion and be expanded with the construction of a new factory in the immediate vicinity of the existing LANXESS plant.

This direction-setting day was also used to host the first parliamentary evening in the history of LANXESS in the capital Berlin. In order to start off the new year 2010 in political Berlin and establish the Group as innovative company and reliable partner, LANXESS hosted ministers and state secretaries, parliamentarians, representatives from embassies and trade associations as well as media representatives in the “Academy of the Arts” in Berlin.

The guest of honour and main speaker at the evening was Annette Schavan, the Federal Minister for Education and Research. She made use of the occasion to gain information on LANXESS and the company’s commitment, both in terms of its investment in Bitterfeld and the “LANXESS Year of Water 2010”. In her message she commended LANXESS in particular for its company-driven educational initiatives – another exemplary investment in the future by the company.

In addition to Annette Schavan, other guests included the State Secretary of the Ministry for Economics and Labour of Saxony Anhalt, Detlef Schubert, the state secretary of the Federal Ministry for Economics and Technology, Bernd Pfaffenbach, as well as numerous members of the German parliament, such as the former German Minister of Economy, Michael Glos and representatives from foreign embassies.

Hermann Gröhe, the CDU general secretary, summarised the significance of the LANXESS socio-political commitment as follows: “Corporate commercial success and social responsibility belong together and with the “Year of Water” the company demonstrates that it has placed big future-related issues on its agenda – and that is good – hopefully for the company, but definitely for our country.”
